One of the amazing things about women - not only do we love to talk (oh, yeah!) but we also like to show that we care through simple gestures of touch. In our slightly crazy world today, we keep hearing stories that go against this very natural instinct - to reach out and touch someone.

Throughout our journeys creating Mama Mio, we have been privileged to meet some extraordinary women. Women who have the power to touch you in some way - to inspire you, making you re-evalutate what is important, to help you think in a broader, more accepting way, to help you celebrate the differences between us all and to really appreciate how much happier and stronger we all are as a supportive group, than as individuals coping alone. We asked some of these wonderful women to write their stories so that we could share them with you.

If you want to reach out and share a thought, a story or just a comment, please do. We've love to hear from you. tell us what you think

Sacredness of Touch

People often ask me why I became a massage therapist. I found it more a calling then a career choice. While in massage school I met many types of individuals pursuing careers in massage for various reasons. I found myself looking forward to the practice of massage on my classmates. The tissue and skin seemed for me to hold all of the memories and experiences of this individual. Be it good, bad, sad, joyous, it did not matter, what I found interesting about touching skin and the muscles beneath was the body holds all of our experiences, thought forms, and memories until given the opportunity to release them. Through working with many types of people coming from a variety of backgrounds I found the one constant to be the courage to allow another being to touch and change the texture and holding pattern in the body. I began to realize the enormous trust we put into our massage therapists and the true intimacy involved. As I work with people I am aware of the profound trust and courage this being in front of me is offering. I have come to understand and deeply appreciate that any being allowing us to touch them is worthy of profound respect. For me this is the basis of my work anything less then profound respect being offered compromises the relationship between therapist and client. The grace offered by massage is unmatched for me and when offered from a grounded, sacred and loving space I believe it can change both the therapist and the client in insightful ways.
